Rokansai is one of the pioneers in the modern bamboo artcrafts, based on Japanese traditional weaving techniques. His works has a dynamic and novel thinking among bamboo, which influenced many young babmoo artists. |

Born in Tochigi Prefecture, studied under his father Hosai Iizuka 1st
Moved to Tokyo
Participated in forming the Nihon Kogei Bijutsukai group.
Begun exhibiting at the Teiten exhibitions.
Awarded a Tokusen Prize
Became member of judging committee of the Teiten exhibition as well as an invited participant
Became member of Niten exhibitions judging committee and councilor
Became chairman of the Nihon Chikukogeika association
